Spring Pollination research and Restoration assistant

Seasonal Field Technician

Expected Dates: April 15 to June 28, 2024

Hours: Full Time (8 hrs/day, 5 days/week)

Location: University of California McLaughlin Reserve, Lower Lake, CA

About the Position: The Harrison Lab and the McLaughlin Reserve are jointly seeking a spring field technician to assist with plant-pollinator research and wildland meadow stewardship. Under the guidance of a graduate student (see Rebecca’s website), this position will provide training in plant and pollinator research techniques. Duties of the technician will include assisting with plant surveys, pollinator surveys, and data entry during April and May. Under guidance of land stewards at the McLaughlin Reserve (https://naturalreserves.ucdavis.edu/mclaughlin-reserve), the technician will assist in managing the meadows that support this research, primarily by hand-pulling invasive grasses and forbs, but also by participating in prescibed burns and a variety of activites to restore streams and maintain trails. Requirements:

  • Must be available to live at the UC McLaughlin Reserve field station for the duration of the position (housing provided free of charge)
  • Basic knowledge of ecology and environmental science       
  • Willingness to work full days outdoors in wildlands
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required
