Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve – ‘Ootchamin ‘Ooyakma

Stanford University’s Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve – ‘Ootchamin ‘Ooyakma (read Introducing ‘Ootchamin ‘Ooyakma) is in the eastern foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, about five miles southwest of the main Stanford campus. The preserve encompasses remarkable geologic, topographic, and biotic diversity within its 483 hectares (1,193 acres) and provides a natural laboratory for researchers from all over the world, educational experiences to students and docent-led visitors, and refuge to native plants and animals.

Our Mission: To contribute to the understanding of the Earth’s natural systems through research, education, and protection of the preserve’s resources.

Our Vision: To be a leader for innovation in research, education, and communication on natural systems, through providing an interdisciplinary, cross-cultural, and place-based training ground for effective Earth stewardship by our community and the next generations of global leaders.
