Lacawac Science Interns support the Sanctuary’s mission of research, education, and preservation by assisting with field work, lab analysis, water quality monitoring, public programs, outreach, trail work, and events. Interns gain hands-on experience in lake ecology, sampling and lab techniques, research methods, field/lab safety, data management, science communication, and public outreach.
This entry-level summer internship is ideal for students interested in ecology, conservation, environmental science, or environmental education. Interns work 20–30 hours/week (some weekends) and should be comfortable with outdoor work in varied conditions, including boats, hiking, and physical labor. A personal vehicle is strongly recommended due to Lacawac’s rural location. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and be authorized to work in the U.S.
A modest stipend and free housing (shared kitchen/bathroom and dorm-style rooms) are provided. Dates: May 18–August 14, 2026 (negotiable).
To apply: Email the application, resume, and unofficial transcripts to Theresa Black at theresa.black@lacawac.org with the subject line “2026 Lacawac Science Internship.” Review begins February 16, 2026.
