Founded in 1941 by aviator and explorer Richard Archbold, Archbold Biological Station is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to science, conservation, and education. Archbold is located in one of the most ecologically diverse and threatened regions in the world, the Headwaters of the Everglades, an area that impacts the lives of more than 8 million Floridians.
Here, Archbold scientists have been working for more than 80 years to advance humanity’s understanding of Florida’s unique ecosystems and species—while also aiding the cause of conservation science around the world. Archbold’s mission is to build and share the scientific knowledge needed to protect the life, lands, and waters of Florida, and beyond.
