Mpala Research Centre

  • Mpala Research Centre is an exceptional hub of field-based research nestled within the captivating
landscapes of Laikipia County, Kenya. Renowned as a pioneering collaboration between the United States
and Kenya, Mpala enjoys unwavering support from esteemed international research organizations. Harnessing
its unique location, Mpala spearheads cutting-edge investigations into crucial global concerns spanning
conservation, climate change, biodiversity, genomics, ecology, agriculture, human-wildlife interactions, and
public health. Mpala is a living laboratory on a 48,000 acre conservancy with full access to its natural resources where researchers can test, build, manipulate, and collect long-term data. Mpala is a unique field-based research facility with state of the art laboratories with sophisticated equipment and trained staff. The field is an untouched semi-arid savannah, with 100 mammal species, an estimated 550 bird species, and a number of endangered species in a region where land and people are dispropotionately affected by climate change.
